
Peter Bales is a skilled trial lawyer representing clients in all phases of litigation, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution. Mr. Bales has obtained successful results for clients in both state and federal courts, including several jury trials to verdict. As a member of Long & Levit’s Lawyers & Judges Defense Group, Mr. Bales’ practice focuses on defending lawyers and law firms in professional liability matters, partnership disputes, disciplinary matters, and risk management issues.
Mr. Bales is also a member of Long & Levit’s Commercial Litigation Group, where his expertise covers a wide range of complex business and contract disputes. Mr. Bales has extensive experience in unfair competition and intellectual property litigation, including trade secrets and trademarks. He also advises employers and employees on employment mobility, unlawful restraints on competition, confidentiality, and trade secrets. Mr. Bales also represents clients in various real estate matters, including commercial lease disputes and unlawful detainers. Clients have also relied on Mr. Bales as their trusted adviser and litigator in other types of business and financial disputes, including those related to enforcement of judgments, provisional remedies, banking and financial institutions, receiverships, wine and beverage industries, and partnerships and joint venture disputes, among many others.
Mr. Bales earned his Juris Doctorate at University of California’s Berkeley School of Law, where he served on the Moot Court Board and was a member of several nationwide trial advocacy teams. The Bales Trial Competition is an advocacy program available to first year law students at Berkeley School of Law that Mr. Bales developed and continues to support. At law school, Mr. Bales received awards for Academic Excellence in Evidence, Civil Procedure, and Torts. Mr. Bales also served as the legal extern to the Honorable D. Lowell Jensen (Ret.) of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. Mr. Bales earned his undergraduate degree in finance from the Leed’s School of Business at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he was on the Dean’s Honor List and a member of the Beta Gamm Sigma Honors Business Society.
