Douglas Melton defends and counsels California employers with a special focus on professional service providers such as law firms, architecture/design firms and healthcare organizations, and on hospitality and entertainment employers.
Mr. Melton, an experienced trial lawyer, defends employers in litigation and administrative proceedings in state and federal courts and before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the National Labor Relations Board, and the California Department of Labor, among others. Mr. Melton’s defense practice includes individual litigation and arbitration as well as class action and representative litigation, e.g., pursuant to the California Private Attorney General Act (“PAGA”).
Mr. Melton’s counseling practice focuses on helping employers avoid harassment, discrimination, retaliation and wage and hour claims. Mr. Melton audits clients’ employment policies, procedures and employee handbooks, and counsels clients on day-to-day legal issues. Mr. Melton also performs workplace trainings and investigations.
Mr. Melton regularly writes and speaks on current legal issues of interest to employers.
